Editions, versions and formats

An SPSN belongs to the publication details we approved. It does not automatically cover later formats or versions.

Changes that need a new SPSN

A different print or digital format needs its own SPSN. A translation, major revision or separately named edition also needs a new number.

A different title or publisher

You cannot change the title or publisher on an active SPSN. Withdraw the existing number and submit a new paid application for the changed publication. The old number remains reserved.

Changes that can keep the SPSN

An unchanged reprint can keep its number. You can also fix small typing errors when the content, title, publisher, language, format and edition remain the same.

Choose the exact format

Choose the type and format of the item you are registering. Do not combine separately released formats such as paperback, EPUB and PDF in one SPSN application.
