Editions, formats, translations and versions

Keep the same SPSN only while the edition, format, language, title and publisher stay the same.

In this section

A new SPSN is required

Apply for a new SPSN for a different print or digital format, a translation, a major revision, a new edition, or a publication with a different title or publisher.

If the title or publisher changes after approval, withdraw the existing SPSN and submit a new paid application for the changed publication.

The existing SPSN remains valid

An unchanged reprint can keep its SPSN. You can also fix small typing errors without getting a new number, as long as the content, edition, title, publisher, language and format have not changed.

When uncertain

Contact Support before applying if you are unsure whether a change creates a new edition. We will consider whether readers, sellers and other users would see it as a different publication.
